Classic mahjong solitaire

128 games

This is mahjong as most people picture it: a pile of tiles stacked in layers, from which you take pairs of matching free tiles until the table is empty. A tile is free when nothing covers it and its left or right side is open.

The page holds more than a hundred classic layouts, from traditional layouts to themed versions with fruit, cats, Japanese gardens or holidays. The rules stay the same, and each game brings a different layout and mood.

Questions and answers

How do I know a tile is free?

Nothing covers it from above, and at least one side, left or right, is open. Many games highlight free tiles for you.

What if there are no pairs left?

Most games offer a shuffle or a hint. They are best saved for the end of a game.

Is this real Chinese mahjong?

No, this is mahjong solitaire for one player. Traditional mahjong is played by four people with completely different rules.
