About the game

The Dutch game of klaverjassen. Choose between the Amsterdam and Rotterdam variants, then how trumps are chosen, normal or Utrecht style.

If you play belote, you will find your feet in klaverjas quickly: both games come from the same family of trick taking card games with trumps and melds. Four players play in two pairs with thirty two cards. Before a game you choose the Amsterdam or Rotterdam variant, and then how trumps are picked, normal or Utrecht style.

Klaverjassen belongs to the Card games variant in the Table games world and joined the catalogue on November 10, 2022. The rules, levels and on-screen language are set by the game’s creator, and a short guide appears on its start screen.

How to play

  1. Choose the variant and the way trumps are picked.
  2. In every trick you must follow suit if you can.
  3. When you cannot follow suit, the trumping rules depend on the variant you chose.
  4. Tricks and melds score points, and the pair that chose trumps must take more than half.

Three tips for klaverjas

  • The jack and nine of trumps are the strongest cards, watch when they appear.
  • Track which cards have fallen, in a thirty two card game it pays off.
  • Do not call trumps without a strong hand, losing the game is expensive.
